CFF also supports The Ocean Cleanup in Bangkok
At the end of March 2024, CFF Communications managed communications for The Ocean Cleanup surrounding the unveiling of Interceptor 019 in Bangkok. Colleagues Niels Broekhof and Frédérique van Gijn were responsible for hosting international media.
CFF is proud to have supported The Ocean Cleanup from its very beginning, managing media relations worldwide, among other things. Led by the young visionary Boyan Slat, the organization has grown into a global non-profit active in South and Central America, Asia, Canada, and the United States. The organization focuses on both removing old plastic from the oceans and preventing further plastic from entering via rivers. This combination has already resulted in the removal of over 9 million kilograms of plastic from the water. The Ocean Cleanup aims to remove 90% of all floating plastic from the oceans by 2040.
The initiative’s appeal has attracted global media attention. CFF Communications helps The Ocean Cleanup interact with these news outlets, newspapers, influencers, and investigative journalists.
Fifteen Interceptors are now operating worldwide at strategic locations in polluted rivers. The Interceptors operate in various ways, tailored to the local situation. For example, in Guatemala, an Interceptor barricade has been installed to intercept all plastic flowing through the river, which is impossible on a river with heavy boat traffic. This is also the case on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand, where the 15th Interceptor was unveiled in March 2024. Interceptor 019 was installed at the river’s edge, allowing boat traffic to continue to pass.
